Childhood is not just a time of waiting to become an adult, but a part of life. We start as helpless infants, with no language save that of our bodies. We learn quickly where food comes from, who will comfort us, and what we like. We grow, and as we grow we learn to communicate with the people around us. We learn that dog doesn't speak the same language as we do. We learn that our parents do, however, and find joy in letting them know how we feel. Somehow, the dog already knows...strange!
Learning is a natural process. We learn to duck when walking through a low doorway. We learn to make friends. We learn to chew and swallow. We learn to read, to write, to evaluate our world.
School, as it exists now, tends to teach us more about fitting in and becoming a homogenous group of followers. Choosing to homeschool is a personal decision that we make based on our beliefs, our goals, and our hopes for our children. How we homeschool is also a personal decision.
