School has started again…

Aug 25, 2008 in Summer

Well, another summer is about to end and another school year has started. Time for parents to get get their school routines set up, make sure their kids get the homework done, and driving schedules set up for all those after-school programs. But let us not forget about ourselves and our spouses/significant others.

Making time for some private time for ourselfs and intimate time with our spouse/significant other is crucial to not only surviving the daily rigors of our kids school day and our work day but also to help us to create a healthy and happy relationship with our best friend and lover.

Helping your wife get her outfit ready for the next work day or give your hubby a thank you for helping get the kids ready for bed go a long way. Giving your lover a foot massage or back rub shows how much you love and care for them.

Let us take time to remember how much fun we had when we first met or a special vacation we took, just the two of us. Those are the important things to remember. They should be happening today too. Take care of each other and help the relationship to grow and strengthen the family at the same time.

Enjoy the end of summer and enjoy each other.

It’s been so long…

Jul 12, 2008 in LA Dodgers

Hello,

I know I have not been keeping up with my blog. To tell the truth I do not really know what I want to talk about. I know what your thinking, how can that be with all that is happening in the world as well at around the old home front.

I’m an at home dad, I have been working the past 1.5 months part time at Purdue University and I just can’t wrap my mind around someting to say. BTW, that is very uncharacteristic of me…lol. I am a somewhat loud motor mouth as well as a people person but sometimes I just do not know what to say.

I started this bog to talk about being a single dad, an at home dad and a husband as well as a bit of personal stuff, just to spice things up. So, if anyone has any questions or curiosities about any of the aforementioned, please fell to ask and we shall chat a bit.

Bye for now and remember to laugh, love and party on,

Jeff

Dodgers leaving Vero Beach?

Mar 22, 2008 in LA Dodgers

Well, I am very sad, as I am sure many long time Los Angeles Dodgers fans are, that they are leaving Vero Beach, FL for their new spring training home in Glendale, AZ next year. I am also sad and annoyed with myself that I never had or just did it, the opportunity to visit the Dodgers in Vero Beach and I will never get the chance too.  How could they leave such a historic training facility after 60 years?

I understand they are looking at not just the financial savings by being closer to Los Angeles but also to give their huge fan base an much easier and less expensive spring training adventure with the Dodgers.

It is just sad to see how easy things can change like that.

So, is it spring yet?

Mar 22, 2008 in Spring

I just watched my loving wife blog about though it is spring, it is snowing and yucky outside. No sun, no fun. Boy is she pissed. She doesn’t deserve this at all, really. What is wrong with the weather? I don’t think that is a question that can be answered any time soon though I think I will ponder it some more as the day drags on. I do know that I would love to have some sun too. This has been a long, dreary winter. I have not been sick this winter, at least nothing to speak of and spring supposedly arrived and I am sick. What gives?

On other more pleasant thoughts, my step-son Jason has just been accepted as one of four contestants for the Taste of the Tippecanoe this summer. This is the first time that they will have an amateur cooking competition as part of Taste. He recently took first place in a cooking competition as part of this culinary training, way to go Jason! The boy will be an awesome chef soon.

A bit more about me

Mar 12, 2008 in Intro

I think it is time to tell you more about me, Jeff…husband, At Home Dad (AHD), domestic engineer, and teacher.

I grow up in Los Angeles, California. My teen years consisted of running up and down the beaches of Southern California and along Highway 1. I also enjoyed hanging with my CB buddies, cruising Westwood Village by UCLA, and watching the drag racers on Van Nuys Blvd among many other things. I worked for a large fast food chain (what is that girls name?) for over 2 years before I decided that I needed more in my life than managing a fast food restaurant. Boy is LA a fun place to live!

I spent 5.5 years in the United States Navy & left as an FGT2/ss. I did my boot camp in San Diego, Ca, then onto a year in Groton Ct. for my submarine and advanced schools, then back to San Diego. I was stationed aboard the USS Dixon (a sub tender) and the USS Houston (an LA class fast attack sub). I received an honorable discharge but I got out 6 months early when I divorced and took custody of my 2 young kids. I’ll elaborate more about my Navy life later.

After I got out of the Navy, reality set in. I realized that I, a man, could raise kids but I had to prove it to everyone and their uncle, sister, grandparents and the dog. After about 3 months out of the Navy, (yes I took a break…lol) I realized it was time to get moving on a career. Time to get my butt in gear. I started looking around San Diego but nothing really appealed to me. I then decided in after talking to my brother and doing some soul searching, that I needed a change. So I moved us to Reno, NV. What a place to prove that I can do it! All that snow…I was not prepared. I also went to school. I needed to do though, do it all on my own and it was a challenge, let me tell you. More about my challenge later.

I received a slot machanics degree from the Nevada Gaming School for gaming machine service, maintenance, and repair. I was working at the Circus Circus Hotel & Casino as a valet, working my way up to a training supervisor while going to school at night. I know what you are thinking, what about the kids? I had alot of help with the kids. I worked with some good people who helped alot and had a few very good kid sitters too. I worked for the Eldorado Hotel & Casino as a slot mechanic for about a year after CC.

After two years in Reno, I decided that my kids needed to know who their family was and I moved us to Los Angeles.  We lived in the San Fernando Valley for over 3 years. I had various jobs over the years and it was rough at times. My family helped alot with the kids. As a single dad, I realized that my daughter needed a “woman’s touch,” so I went to Big Sisters for help. My daughter was as paired with a really sweet young lady who just adored my “Punky” and visa-versa. More about some of the ups and downs in LA later on down the line.

After 3+ years in LA and after some hard thinking about my future and where it was not going in LA, I went looking in Las Vegas. This was my second look at Las Vegas and I was hoping for something this time. I spent a long week running up and down the strip and downtown, talking with lead slot mechanics and department heads, hoping for a job. Nothing came of it but on the way home something inside me said “just do it.” Anyone ever feel that way, that you need to do it even thought all of the pieces are not in place? That gut reaction. I know what you are thinking…how can you just do it and hope it will all work out? I had 2 kids who needed me to do it better then everyone else. I planned it on the drive home and we were in Las Vegas in 3 weeks. I took a massive gamble and it paid off. It only took 3 1/2 months too, for a cool job to come my way. I will touch more on Las Vegas later.

Vegas turned out to be more than I thought it was going to be. I met a woman, got married, and we blended our families. I think that is for another time altogether.

Bye for now:)

Hello world!

Jan 11, 2008 in Intro

Hello to all who read this:)

This is my first adventure into the world of blogging.  I have to first and foremost, thank my sweet wife for helping me get this all set up. Secondly, I hope to add fun and interesting stuff here on a regular basis, whatever a regular basis comes to be. Not totally sure what I will be adding either but we shall see. Lastly, I welcome any and all questions and comments, so don’t be shy.

Let me start out by telling you a bit about me. I am a husband, father, and stay-at-home-dad/domestic engineer/teacher. I have been married for almost 14 years to Deborah. We have 6 kids between us ranging from 26 to 13. I have been a SAHD for over 12 years and we have homeschooled Micah (13yo) from the start with the exception of 5th & 6th grades. More about the later.

I was born in Los Angeles, Ca. I have lived on both coasts as well as the midwest (our 2nd adventure here). Southern California is my place to be. I have lived in Northern California and I really enjoyed it too.

I think that is all for now. I will add more later when I decide what to say…lol.

Jeff:)
